Stephen ministry
Stephen Ministry is a national program used in many congregations as a way
to help church members minister to one another. A leadership team headed by Rev. Lora
Copley helps to train and then oversee a team of Stephen Ministers. Following many hours of
extensive training, each Stephen Minister gets assigned to visit a fellow Calvin member who has
some temporary need for friendship and support. Perhaps a spouse has recently died or perhaps
someone has lost a job. Perhaps someone struggles with loneliness or depression or is facing the
setbacks and limitations of old age. Whatever the specific difficulty, Stephen Minsters are
available to walk with such persons during difficult times. Members of Calvin Church are
encouraged to request a Stephen Minister for themselves or to apprize the leadership team of
others who may benefit from having a loving, listening friend be with them during a period of
crisis or transition. Also, anyone who is interested in becoming a Stephen Minister is warmly
encouraged to let Rev. Copley know so that the training can begin and this wonderful ministry
can be furthered.
