Outreach Programs

VBS 2002 At Calvin Church we try to provide meaningful ministires of outreach to our neighbors in Eastown and Ottawa Hills. As we complete our new facility, our ability to host events will increase as the large new Fellowship Hall will provide copious space for games and sports. The Coordinator of Outreach Ministries is Ken VanderPloeg.
Tutoring
The tutoring program, headed by Corrine Kaas, has 12 students with 12 volunteer tutors. This program as well came out of Neighbors' Night, when the leaders recognized the need for extra one on one educational help for some of the children. The tutors and students meet every Monday afternoon at 4.
Girls' Club
Girls Club picks up where Neighbors' Night ends. Started in January of this year, Girls Club is targeted toward girls ages 10-17. Due to space limitations in the church they meet every other Wednesday night. Leaders work to build relationships through different activities like cooking, baking, sewing, shopping and Bible study. "We want to walk with the girls through their teen years. We become bridges to Christ, helping the girls build their own relationship with Jesus."
Neighbors' Night
Neighbors'
Night Neighbors' Night, started by Fran Baker in 1990, is a community outreach ministry to the kids in the area. It meets every Tuesday night and is aimed at children ages 3-12. Patterned after Vacation Bible School, the program includes Bible lessons, arts & crafts and music. This year we are initiating a new curriculum called "Discipleland." Each child gets a workbook and Bible. Together they study the Bible, memorize Bible verses, learn about biblical geography, study the parables and much more. The object is to have the kids go home with the knowledge of Jesus in their heart.
