Rev. Rebecca Jordan Heys, Minister of Worship and Pastoral Care
I rejoice in serving as the Minister of Worship and Pastoral Care at Calvin Church: preaching and planning worship, providing spiritual care and counsel, leading the staff, and encouraging and equipping this congregation in their growth as disciples of Jesus Christ and in their mission in our community. I served as the Minister of Discipleship at Calvin Church from 2011-2017 and then transitioned to my current role.
I was raised in Fremont, Michigan and attended Calvin College and Princeton Theological Seminary. I was ordained as a Minister of the Word in the Christian Reformed Church in 2009 when I served at Church of the Servant in Grand Rapids. I am married to Kyle Heys, who works at Calvin College. We have two children: Jubilee and Lazarus.

Rev. Brad Zwiers, Minister of Faith Formation
I’m thrilled to be part of the Holy Spirit’s work at Calvin Church, and grateful for the chance to walk in faith together, grow into our identity in Christ, and wrestle with what it means to follow Jesus Christ in our context. In close collaboration with Pastor Rebecca and Pastor Jake, I focus on faith formation and discipleship at Calvin Church, with an emphasis on middle school, high school, and college ministries.
I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan and graduated from Calvin College and Western Theological Seminary. In vocational ministry, I’ve served at Pillar Church in Holland, Michigan and at Calvin Christian High School and Middle School in Grandville, Michigan.
Gwyn and I married in 2012. We go on long walks, hike dunes, read books, and I watch Liverpool F.C. on Saturday mornings while she usually does something else.

Rev. Jacob Heerema, Minister of Visitation
I thank the Lord for this third invitation to serve as a member of the Calvin church ministry team. From 1966-1968 I was privileged to be mentored by Pastor Boomsma in a two year mentoring role while completing my seminary training. From 1974 to 1981 I served here as Minister of Congregational Life and since early 2017 have been involved as part-time Minister of Visitation. I am privileged to partner with Pastor Rebecca and Pastor Brad in providing pastoral care to our homebound members as well as those facing special needs. I’m grateful to underscore the deep ties that bind our church members together in a love that offers care nd upport.
I came from New Jersey to attend Calvin College in 1953, joined Calvin Church, my new church home.
Marian and I met while serving at Camp Roger, and were married here in 1958. Following seven years of serving as the Director of the Calvinist Cadet Corps and principal of the Westminster Christian School in Miami, FL, I attended Calvin Seminary from 1964-1968. Since then I have served in parish ministries, in chaplaincy, and have been semi-retired since 2001.
Makalah Hartgerink, Pastoral Intern
I am a student at Calvin Theological Seminary and I am so excited to be joining the team at Calvin Church for my contextual learning internship. I am eager to learn about Calvin Church and serve in a variety of ways. I am passionate about youth ministry and look forward to participating in that a number of other ministry areas in my time here. I look forward to getting to know the Calvin Church community and to worshiping and growing together.
I am from Byron Center, Michigan. I graduated from Calvin College with my nursing degree and have been a nurse in an outpatient office for the past year and a half. Some of my hobbies include hiking, traveling, and walking. I enjoy anything that involves spending time outside and exploring God’s creation. I also enjoy spending time with my family. God has been nudging me toward full time ministry for a while. So, this past year I decided to take the leap and follow His call. I switched to part time at work in order to attend Calvin Seminary full time. I am eager to see the ways God continues to shape and direct my call through my time both at Calvin Seminary and Calvin Church.

Kenneth Bos, Director of Music, Organist
It has been a pleasure for me to be a part of the music staff at Calvin Church since September 1996. I began as organist and then acquired some additional duties, eventually becoming Director of Music. My position includes playing the organ, conducting the Sanctuary Choir, keeping track of the music budget, and scheduling and overseeing all of the fine musical activities that go on at Calvin Church. In addition to my work at Calvin Church I am a full-time faculty member in the Music Department at Grand Rapids Community College. My wonderful wife, Fay, and I have been married for over 40 years. We are blessed to have three married daughters (and three pretty good sons-in-law) and five adorable grandchildren.
