Read Matthew 4:18-22.

Read Luke 5:1-11.

Read the following questions, and pick one or two to respond to in the comments below.  Or, respond to someone else’s comment with a question or comment of your own.

Compare and contrast these two stories of Jesus' call to Peter.

In Matthew's story, Peter leaves his nets immediately to follow Jesus.  In Luke's story, Peter protests a couple of times before Jesus persuades him to follow.  Do you find yourself resonating more with one of these stories?  Why?

Luke 5:8 – Peter said, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!”  Luke 5:10 – Jesus replies, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.”  What is the significance of this exchange?

Has [Jesus] ever convinced you that his authority and your call to service are legitimate?

Do you think the calling to fish for people was specifically for Peter and the disciples or for every Christian?  To what extent do you see yourself as a fisher?
